What It Takes to Be a Slugger
At 14U Sluggers, we’re dedicated to building a team of committed, hard-working athletes who are ready to put in the effort to elevate their skills. Success on the field starts with consistent practice, and we’ve set clear expectations to help each player develop their game and reach their full potential.
Minimum Practice Requirements
To ensure steady improvement, players are required to practice at least three times per week starting after the team roster is announced on February 2nd.
Slugger Barn Access: Players are welcome to use the Slugger Barn for practice at any time. Sessions must be scheduled with Randy or Amy Wall to ensure the facility is ready.
Tracking Progress: A sign-in/out sheet and a wall whiteboard will track each player’s workouts, ensuring accountability and progress visibility.
Individual Workout Goals
Each player will have specific practice expectations, including:
100 throws per session to sharpen accuracy and arm strength.
Weighted ball workouts for improving pitching or throwing mechanics.
100 swings on the tee to refine batting technique.
These exercises will be tailored to each player’s needs and posted in the Slugger Barn as part of their personalized development plan.
Balancing Commitments
We understand players may have other responsibilities, including school, church, or other sports. Sluggers provides flexibility, allowing players to coordinate practice times around their schedules. For players on other travel teams, practices with those teams can count toward weekly requirements, but one session per week with a Sluggers coach (Randy, Amy, Gust, Raegan, or Emily) is mandatory.
Year-Round Commitment
Our goal is to develop players who are passionate about softball and dedicated to improving their skills year-round. While we focus on softball, we take a seasonal break from early December through mid-January to allow players and families to recharge before the next phase of training begins.
Joining the Sluggers means embracing hard work, discipline, and a passion for growth. We’re excited to support you on this journey!
